What parents Are Saying
“I am so thankful we have found Melody this school year and to help us transition into middle school next fall. She is very kind, patient, and really relates to our son. I feel confident that with Melody's help my son will be able to transition to middle school with confidence. I highly recommend Melody for any family wanting to improve their child's executive functioning skills!”
“Melody changed my daughter’s life, I’m almost in tears writing this...She used to be up to all hours trying to finish her work, now she is done very early in the day and sometimes gets it all done in school!!! This leaves her so much time to do the things she loves like drawing and reading! As a result, her self-esteem is the highest it’s been in years. She just told me she can’t remember the last time she was this happy 💕!”
“Melody helped my son with organizing his homework and coming up with ideas that he could implement himself to help him stay on track with getting his assignments done and turned in on time.
I highly recommend Melody!”
My Hobbies:
I enjoy spending time with my husband and young adult daughters, kayaking on calm waters, going for walks and hikes with my husband and our little dog, listening to audiobooks and podcasts, gardening, attending book club, and singing in my church choir (pre-COVID 19).
My Career History:
My career began with my internship year at Heartland AEA 11, Johnston, Iowa in the fall of 1996. Then I moved back to my home state of Minnesota. I have spent the last 24 years working in various Minnesota school districts; most recently working for the Waconia School District since 2006.
Executive Functioning is cool!
How did I become interested in Executive Functioning Skills (EF Skills)? I have always enjoyed helping children overcome deficits. In the past, I have focused particularly on how to teach students coping strategies to deal with mental health symptoms of anxiety and depression as well as general social skills. In 2017, I attended a workshop led by Sarah Ward and Kristen Jacobsen regarding EF Skills; I was intrigued! From this, I learned I could teach students how to be organized, manage time, plan and prioritize, and study for tests, among other things. Since then, the more I have learned about EF Skills, the more I see they are essential to productivity, success, and having a sense of accomplishment.
